Electronic Signatures
GEM-CAR is compatible with electronic signature devices like the GEM-PAD for signing estimates, work orders and deposits. With version 13.0.1 we introduced onscreen signatures for Windows 10 tablets like the GEM-TABLET. We also added the possibility to electronically sign from the Punch clock. To use electronic signatures, you need a GEM-CAR license that allows you to transfer the signatures on invoices and work orders.
Installation and activation
Follow the steps below to configure GEM-CAR for signing documents with electronic signatures using an electronic signature pad.
- Install the SigPlus driver for signature pads.
- In the GEM-CAR Main menu, go to Configuration > Local configuration.
- Click on the General data tab.
- Check the Use electronic signatures box if you choose to use an electronic signature pad. If you prefer to use onscreen signatures on a Windows 10 tablet, also check the Use electronic signatures box. You may choose one of both methods. GEM-CAR cannot do both at the same time.
- Click on the diskette button to save.
- Restart GEM-CAR.
Use electronic signatures
Whenever a signature is required, you can click on the Signature button to show the Enter your signature window. You can then make customers electronically sign documents.
You will find this button:
- in the Point of sale for signing estimates;
- in the Punch clock for signing work orders; and
- in the Register a deposit window when accepting deposits from customers.

Sign with an electronic signature pad
To sign with an electronic signature pad:
- Click on the Signature button.
- Sign on the electronic signature pad. The digital signature produced by the device will show onscreen in the Enter your signature window.
- If you want to also transfer this signature to some work orders, check the To approve boxes for each of the applicable jobs on the list.
- Click on the green button at the bottom right corner of the window to confirm the signature.
Sign with a Windows 10 tablet
To sign onscreen with a Windows 10 tablet:
- Click on the Signature button.
- In the Enter your signature window, click on the Open onscreen signature button.
- In the onscreen signature window, sign in the white box on the screen with a finger or a stylet.
- Click on the confirm button on the left to confirm or the undo button on the right to erase the signature and do it again.
- If you want to also transfer this signature to some work orders, check the To approve boxes for each of the applicable jobs on the list.
- Back at the Enter your signature window, click on the green button on the bottom right corner to confirm the signature.
Mandatory electronic signature
When creating, or editing categories for products or jobs, you can make electronic signatures mandatory for all the product and/or job codes contained in this category. To do so, check the Mandatory signature when invoicing box in the Product/Job Categories Management window.
